Disney’s “Tron” returns to the screen in the long awaited sequel “Tron: Legacy”.
The film takes place several years after the original film. Kevin Flynn (played by Oscar winner Jeff Bridges), the respected former CEO of ENCOM, the company which developed the popular arcade game “Tron”, has been missing for a number of years and his son Sam Flynn (played by Garrett Hedlund) is all grown up. Not exactly ready to take over his fathers video gaming company Sam makes it his mission for the popular video game Tron to be free for all users as it was intended rather than go in the direction of the company’s current CEO’s.
When Kevin’s old business partner Alan Bradley (played by Bruce Boxleitner) tells Sam that he received a page from his father’s abandoned office, Sam makes his way to his father’s old hangout and is sucked into the digital world of Tron.
There he discovers his father, who has been living there whilst his digital clone “Clu” has taken over the Grid of the digital universe. Sam, Kevin and Quorra (played by Olivia Wilde), a program who Kevin has taken under his wing and taught all he knows to her, set out for the portal to the real world.
The film is all about it’s special effects. A lot of the film was filmed in front of a green screen or on amazingly detailed sets to create the feeling of a digital world. Every scene is filled with an array of special effects.
Fans of the original film “Tron” will be happy to know that the original cast is back so that should make all Tron historians happy.
Also a big part of the film is it’s amazing film score. Disney has chosen to step away from the usual orchestrated score and has gone with, to reflect the video game setting of the film, a more dance orientated sound. The score for the film was created by famous dance group Daft Punk who have succeeded in creating music that fits in with the digital world of Tron.
Special features include two featurettes focusing on the set design and cast of the film. Each featurette takes an in depth look at the different aspects of the making of the film and how the directors, producers and production designers created such a unique world.
Filled with amazing special effects and a fantastic film score, “Tron: Legacy” is a welcome addition to your DVD collection. Available April 20th from Walt Disney Home Entertainment.
