Disney’s fiftieth animated feature “Tangled” has officially made it’s way onto DVD.
The film is a hair raising twist on the classic fairy tale Rapunzel. It follows the young Rapunzel (voiced by Mandy Moore) who possesses magical hair that can heal anyone and keep people young. Because of this hair she has been kept in a tower by an evil woman who is posing as her mother, Mother Gothel (voiced by Donna Murphy). Rapunzel is unaware that she is actually the lost princess and, as she yearns to see the floating lanterns that appear on the same day each year, is not aware that these lanterns are lifted by the King and Queen, her parents, in hope that the lost princess will return.
Also part of the story is a young thief Flynn Ryder who happens to stumble upon Rapunzel’s tower and by request of Rapunzel he agrees to take her to the floating lanterns.
An array of secondary characters are also included in the film, including Rapunzel’s hilarious sidekick chameleon Pascal, and the royal guard horse Maximus who both provide some hilarious moments throughout the film.
The film is, simply put it, magical. It has all the elements that form a classic Disney film and “Tangled” fits into place into Disney’s selection of animated films.
The characters are what drive this film. Rapunzel is a character that you will fall in love with, Flynn is a character who, even though you know he’s a thief, you can’t help but side with and Mother Gothel is an outstanding villain who has that slight humour to her.
Included bonus features on the DVD are two deleted original storybook sequences, in the same style as classic Disney films. Also included is the “50th Animated Feature Countdown” which is a montage of every Disney film from “Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs” to “Tangled”. Disney’s FastPlay is also included.
