Disney’s classic The Lion King returns to home media with the Diamond Edition release.

It’s been seven years since The Lion King was released to home media, and the high definition conversion has been worth the wait. If you are unaware of the story, the film follows young cub Simba, the prince of the pridelands. When his father, Mufasa, the king of pride rock is killed by his evil uncle Scar, Simba runs off and meets care free characters Timon and Pumbaa. Simba grows up with the “Hakuna Matata” lifestyle but he must return to Pride Rock to claim his crown.

The film has been loved by audiences for over sixteen years and it’s easy to see why. The film is a mix of dazzling visuals, spectacular songs and memorable characters. The soundtrack of the film is amazing with such standout tracks written with the help of Elton John such as the fun anthem “Hakuna Matata” and the opening track “Circle of Life”.

The DVD release includes a featurette in which the films producer, Don Hanhn, takes a look back, with other staff members who worked on the film, on the making of the film. They do this through personal behind the scenes footage and voice overs in which Don and the other staff members reflect on their time on the film. Disney’s FastPlay is also included. The Blu-ray release also includes a bonus featurette, deleted scenes and more.

Also available is The Lion King Trilogy which includes the original film plus the two direct to video sequels “The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride” and “The Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata”.

Filled with fantastic animation and amazing songs The Lion King has been amazing audiences for years. In short, the king is back and better than ever. Available now from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.
