“Wizards of Waverly Place” star Selena Gomez returns, along with her band The Scene, with her newest album “When The Sun Goes Down”.

The album is a mix of dance, pop and everything in between as Selena delivers a variety of tracks that, although won’t suit everybody, would suit most.

The album opens with the newest single from the album “Love You Like A Love Song”. The track is mid-tempo and has a dark vibe to it with a chorus that you can’t help but sing along with. The following track “Bang Bang Bang” follows the dark vibe sound and uses it to create a vintage sounding track.

The albums lead single “Who Says” has become a favourite amongst fans for it’s positive message. It encourages listeners to not give up on their dreams and be happy to be who they are.

Selena mixes it up with “We Own The Night” which features British singer Pixie Lott, who also co-wrote the song. The song is more mellow and more organic drifting from the rest of the album’s pop/ dance sound.

Tracks such as “Hit The Lights”, “Whiplash” and “When The Sun Goes Down” reflects the albums more dance vibe. “Whiplash”, which was co-written by the legendary Britney Spears, has a more eighties sound to it and imitates the sounds of other female leaded bands such as Blondie.

Track “Outlaw” is more of a laidback track and uses old western themes to describe somebody who is afraid of commitment. “Dices”, a Spanish version of lead single “Who Says”, is also included.

Standout tracks include “Love You Like A Love Song”, “Who Says”, “Whiplash” and “Outlaw”.

With a collection of fantastic writers, Selena Gomez seems to know what she’s doing. She’s really upped her game and it’s easy to see why Selena Gomez and The Scene are being called the most consistent Disney branded hit makers. Available now from Hollywood Records and Universal Music Australia.
