Matthew Morrison - Matthew Morrison

Matthew-Morrison-album

Glee star Matthew Morrison enters the world of music with his debut self titled release.

The album is a collection of covers and original tracks. A range of different genres are covered on the album. Matthew covers the more Broadway show tunes but also performs tracks that are more radio friendly and have a sound that is more pop.

The lead single “Summer Rain” uses Matthew’s talents on the ukulele as well as a couple of other tracks on the album. The track “Still Got Tonight” which was performed by Matthew as his character Will on the hit series “Glee” is a standout favourite. The song, co-written by American Idol winner Kris Allen is more rock pop and suits Matthews voice.

Matthew has recruited a few big names for the album including Sting, Gwyneth Paltrow and Elton John. Matthew performs “Let Your Soul Be Your Pilot” with Sting, “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” with Gwyneth Paltrow and a mash up of Elton John hits “Mona Lisa's and Mad Hatters/ Rocket Man” with Elton John.

Fans of the show Glee will realise that his cover of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”, is almost identical to the cover of the song that he performed on the show as his character.

There are a lot of great tracks on the album but some tracks seem to have been included for their radio friendly appeal. Matthew should stick to the rock pop sound because he seems more comfortable in that genre.

With a range of different genres and some worthy covers, the self titled album from the Glee star will appeal to all Glee fans and some of the older generation. Available now from Mercury Records and Universal Music Australia.
