Being released along with Walt Disney’s original classic “Fantasia” is it’s sequel “Fantasia 2000”.

The idea of the film came about from the idea that Fantasia was originally going to be a a film where some segments would be phased out whilst others would be placed in, making the film new each time you watched it.

The film consists of segments of animation animated to classic music. The first segment consists of CGI animated whales that have the ability to fly due to a supernova. Other segments include a story based on the Hans Christian Anderson tale of “The Steadfast Tin Soldier” and a segment based in the 1930’s about a bunch of very different people, including a young man who loves jazz.

The most famous of the segments featured in the original film “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”, starring Mickey Mouse, is also included in the film.

Another famous Disney character Donald Duck makes an appearance. In the segment, inspired by the biblical story “Noah’s Ark”, Donald plays Noah’s right hand man, who whilst helping out Noah believes he has lost his love Daisy, only to discover that she has been on the ark the entire time and the lover’s reunite.

Whilst the original film isn’t really targeted to young children, this film has more of a Disney feel to it reflective of the Disney Renaissance. Each segment has a more youthful feel and would be more appealing to a younger audience.

The special feature “Musicana” is also included. The feature is a small featurette that follows the process of the idea of the original proposed sequel to Fantasia titled “Musicana”. Disney’s FastPlay is also included.

The film’s youthful segments and advanced special effects makes the Disney film a fitting DVD for your collection. Available now from Walt Disney Home Entertainment.
