Part of the Disney Seasonal DVD releases is the Disney film starring your favourite Disney characters, "Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas".
The film consists of three shorts that revolve around a particular character in the Disney universe. The first short features Donald Duck and his nephews Huey, Duey and Louey. In their segment "Stuck on Christmas", Donald's nephews wish it was Christmas everyday. Their wish comes true but when they discover that Christmas is a time of giving they learn a valuable lesson that brings them closer to their family. The second segment titled "Have Yourself a Goofy Christmas" follows Goofy and his son Max. Max no longer believes in Santa Claus, and Goofy, not wanting him to give up on the spirit of Christmas, makes it his mission to show him that Santa Claus really exists. The last segment "The Gift of Magi" features title star Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. Each works hard to buy each other gifts for Christmas, but when they don't earn the fundings necessary for their special gifts, Mickey and Minnie decide to sell their most precious possessions.
All three segments are heartwarming stories but the stand out for me would be "Have Yourself a Goofy Christmas". I really enjoyed the father and son story and I thought it showed Goofy in a really nice light. Seeing him as a Father trying to make his son happy, rather than just a supporting character was really nice to see.
The segments are tied together with some animation and by a narrator (Kelsey Grammar) who introduces the film and each segment.
The three segments are nicely presented. They are not the top quality animation as featured in the theatrical Walt Disney Pictures releases, as this film was released straight-to-DVD, but it's animation surpasses some other Walt Disney direct-to-DVD releases.
Also included for the youngsters is a Bonus Feature "Story Book: Mickey and Minnie's Gift of The Magi". The bonus feature is an interactive story book that tells the story as featured on the DVD with pages on screen and a narrator.
The stories featured on this DVD are ones to be enjoyed by people of all ages and they are told with heart and with the magic of Disney characters. Available now from Walt Disney Home Entertainment.
