When In Rome

From Touchstone Pictures comes the fun romantic comedy "When In Rome" starring Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel.
The film follows Beth (Kristen Bell), who, while in Rome decides to take her destiny with love into her own hands and take coins from a "fountain of love" which in turn makes five guys fall in love with her. The list of gentleman callers includes Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite), Dax Shepard (Without A Paddle), Will Arnett (SNL), Danny Devito (Twins, Be Cool) and Josh Duhamel (Win A Date With Tad Hamilton).

She begins falling for Nick (Josh Duhamel) but tries hard to get rid of the other men underneath her love spell. She begins thinking that even if she's in love with Nick, he's under a spell and it's not real.

The film is a regular romantic comedy that will make any girl happy. It includes the usual girl-next-door, prince charming, happy ending plot that all rom-coms do but it also brings with it a new fun element adding the "magic" to the film. The way the magic is potrayed is heartwarming as it isn't say, magic from a mythical creature who can make potions, but the magic of love.

There is a lot of star power in this film with it's two main stars plus big stars like Danny Devito and Anjelica Houston. I wasn't actually aware that Danny Devito had such a big role in the film but it's fun to see him back in the comedy genre, where he belongs. Anjelica Houston plays the role of the "evil boss" to perfection as she always does when she takes on the role of a villian in a film.

The DVD comes with a few special features including bloopers, deleted scenes and music videos. I was happy with the inclusion of the music video "Starstrukk" performed by 3OH!3 featuring Katy Perry as I'm a fan of the track. The bloopers are also a fun inclusion.

The film is fun and enjoyable and would be happily watched with a partner or even a group of friends. It follows the romantic comedy formula but if it strayed away from what it sets out to be it wouldn't work. Don't expect Oscar-worthy material but just have a laugh and watch the hilarious story of Beth's quest for love. Available September 8th from Touchstone Pictures and Walt Disney Home Entertainment.
