Demi Lovato - Here We Go Again

Just when you think Demi Lovato (Disney Channel’s "Sonny With A Chance") couldn’t do any better she releases her second album "Here We Go Again", a mix of pop, rock, soul and folk music.

Track by Track

Here We Go Again
The lead single and the title track. This is usual Demi at it’s best. A song about a failed relationship with a hard edge and Demi’s usual pop/rock sound reminiscent of teen stars before her.

Solo
This track seems to follow on from "Here We Go Again". It’s a pop/rock track with an edgy chorus and uses the line "Here you go again" to create some continuity from the previous track.

U Got Nothing On Me
An anthem track about breaking up and being independent after a break up. The chanting of the line "U Got Nothing On Me" is interesting and works well in the song.

Falling Over Me
The first track to sound as if it’s been influenced by John Mayer (who worked with Demi on the album). It’s a slow and mellow track that moves slowly but is catchy and it sets itself apart from the first few tracks.

Quiet
On first listen you will be saying to yourself "This is a girl from Disney?". The song was surprising when I first listened to it as it’s so hard hitting and reminiscent of the nineties grunge sound. It has quiet verses and an explosive chorus, which creates a song that is completely different from what other female teenage artists are doing.

Catch Me
The sixth track follows the same formula as Demi’s previous album’s title track "Don’t Forget" (which was also the sixth track on the album. Coincidence?). It’s a moving ballad about being overtaken with love and wanting to "fall" in love.

Everytime You Lie
A mellow track with a bit more flair than "Falling Over Me". The track is a fun take on a relationship where the girl knows her boyfriend is still in love with his ex. This track is Demi’s best friend Selena Gomez’s favourite track on the album saying "When you hear it you’ll know why". Nelena or Niley anyone? ;)

Got Dynamite
A track that is full of energy and screaming vocals. It’s a great track with a chorus that packs a punch. Demi’s vocals in some parts of the song are haunting and it gives the track a dark feeling to it.

Stop The World
Co-written with the youngest member of the Jonas Brothers, Nick Jonas, "Stop The World" is a pop/rock track with a more mellow feel to it. Think of a female version of a Jonas Brothers’ ballad, speed it up and you have "Stop The World".

World of Chances
A stunning and moving ballad co-written by John Mayer. The last verse in the track is exceptionally emotion filled; "I hope you ring me someday. Hear the operator say the numbers no good and that she had a world of chances for you".

Remember December
The track opens with an electro inspired verse and moves into a more rock driven chorus. The electro inspiration is a great inclusion.

Everything You’re Not
Opening with an innocent verse about love and moving into a chorus that tells her ex all she wants is "everything you’re not". A great track with attitude.

Bonus Tracks

Gift of a Friend
The lead single from the new Tinkerbell film, "Gift of a Friend" is a track with evident Irish influences, reflecting the look and feel of the Tinkerbell films. It’s a track with a good message that tells you friends are "gifts" but it’s not the strongest track on the album.

So Far So Great
The theme song to Demi’s Disney Channel Original Series Sonny With A Chance, "So Far So Great" is a great bubbly track with the usual Disney Channel energy. Very fun.

Summary
The album sets Demi Lovato apart from other teen queens out there and she tackles genres that some of those girls wouldn’t touch. She has matured musically and the focus and subjects of her music has also matured.

10/10
