The album includes eight songs, each performed by one of the princesses featured on the front cover. The Disney Princesses featured on the album include Snow White, Mulan, Princess Aurora, Cinderella, Belle, Ariel and Jasmine.
Each Princess has her own solo song, each with their own unique sound i.e. Cinderella's solo song, "It's Your Birthday". is a more "joyous" old-fashioned track whilst Ariel's second solo song "Ariel's Sing Along Song: The Crab Song" is more reggae-inspired.
The album consists of songs about birthdays or songs that are really games that can be played at birthday parties. The opening track "Happy Birthday Princess", sung by Ariel, is a song about how every little girl can be a princess, whilst wishing the little girl celebrating her birthday a "Happy Birthday". Other songs such as "Belle's Adventure", sung by Belle, is more of a game. In the song Belle describes the story of the Walt Disney classic "Beauty and The Beast" and asks children listening along to do the action she says. For example, in the song she talks about how she rides Phillipe, her horse, into the woods, and Belle tells the listeners to gallop along with her. "Mulan's Trip", sung by Mulan, is similar, but is more focused on being a "circle game" where the listeners pass an item in their hands to their left or right, as Mulan instructs. Other songs on the album are more included for the fun of it. This is evident with Snow White's solo song "The Way To Bake (A Birthday Cake)", (the song was first recorded as "The Way To Bake (A Delicious Cake) but has been re-recorded for this album). In the song Snow White sings about baking a cake along with the seven dwarfs. Jasmine's solo song "Musical Chairs" is also in the same style, but could also be used to play the game musical chairs, and it has a very "Arabian" feel to it, obviously reflecting the setting of "Aladdin", Jasmine's starring film.
If your little girl is celebrating her birthday and loves anything Disney this album is an affordable way to celebrate her birthday and even keep her little party guests entertained. Available now from Walt Disney Records and Universal Music Australia.
