Disney's Christmas Favourites

Released for the holiday season is another fun Disney Christmas collection; "Disney's Christmas Favourites".

"Disney's Christmas Favourites" is composed of four Disney shorts, each starring an array of Disney characters. In the first short "Mickey's Mixed Nuts", which was originally broadcasted on television on the original television series' "Mickey Mouse Works" and "House of Mouse", Mickey forgets to buy nuts for Minnie's pie, so he sets out to the supermarket to buy a bag. Whilst there he discovers there's only one bag left and squirrels Chip 'n' Dale are interested in the bag too. What entails is a fight to the finish in the supermarket between Mickey and Chip 'n' Dale. The second short is "A Christmas Cruella". In this short, which was originally an episode in the television series "101 Dalmatians: The Series", the classic tale "A Christmas Carol" is reinvented with the popular characters from "101 Dalmatians" including the famous Disney villian Cruella De Vil. The third short "Toy Tinkers" is a classic Disney animated short starring Donald Duck and Chip 'n' Dale. The final short is "Snow Place To Hide". The short, which was originally an episode of the original series "Quack Pack" features Donald Duck, Daisy Duck and Donald's nephews Huey, Duey and Louey. The short, although not really centering around the theme of Christmas, is set around a ski lodge as Donald Duck fears that Daisy is going out with other guys behind his back, all just a figment of Donald's imagination.

I really enjoyed this collection of Disney animated shorts. The "Mickey's Mixed Nuts" and "A Christmas Cruella" shorts are probably my favourites just because I used to watch the television series in which these shorts come from. I think the choice to add these two to the DVD was a fantastic idea. I would have loved to have also included some Christmas episodes of some other favourite Disney animated television series but the two shorts are enjoyable enough.

Also included is the bonus feature "Holiday Gift Hunt". The feature is a game in which you are taken around an animated city filled with shopping centres. A voice over instructs that you have to find a gift for a Disney character (i.e. Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse etc.) and you choose from a bunch of possible gifts on the screen. If you get it wrong, you can choose another and move onto the next "round". I didn't find the game challenging as it is more geared towards a younger audience.

This DVD of animated Disney shorts is a standout in the Disney seasonal DVD collection, with it's inclusion of the "Mickey's House of Mouse" and "101 Dalmatians: The Series" episodes. If you enjoyed these television series as a child and are an avid Disney fan, this DVD is worthy of being added to your DVD collection. Available now from Walt Disney Home Entertainment.
