The Muppet Christmas Carol

Putting their own little spin on a beloved Christmas classic is The Muppets with "The Muppet Christmas Carol".

If you're unfamiliar with the Charles Dickens classic "A Christmas Carol" then I'll fill you in. The story follows Scrooge, an unhappy old man who despises Christmas. Whilst the rest of his little town celebrates the season he would rather make money and have his employees work. Scrooge, still declaring his hatred for the season is visited by three ghosts; the ghosts of past, present and future. Each ghost shows him a Christmas from his past, present and future and change his opinion on Christmas and to show him that Christmas is a time for giving and celebrating with the ones you love.

The tale is shown in a new and fun way, with many of The Muppets playing the roles of the popular characters from the novel. Michael Cain is the human lead in the film taking on the role of Mr Ebenezar Scrooge. Charles Dickens (played by Gonzo) and Rizzo the Rat act as the narrators to the story, and add a more comical element to the film, with Rizzo spending most of the time trying to make Gonzo prove he is in fact Charles Dickens.

Special Features included in this 50th Anniversary Edition include an Outtakes and Bloopers reel, which sees The Muppets in a few funny mistakes introduced by Gonzo and Rizzo The Rat. Also included is a hilarious "profile piece" hosted by Muppet Pepe - "Pepe Profiles Presents - Gonzo: A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Weirdo". The special feature interviews The Muppets as they give their opinions on Gonzo as Pepe details the life of the beloved Muppet. The last feature included is "Christmas Around The World". The special feature is also introduced by Gonzo and Rizzo The Rat as they explain the different Christmas traditions celebrated around the world. The feature is an interesting view into the different ways different countries celebrate the season but don't expect something worthy of the Discovery Channel. It's obviously for a younger audience with simple stated facts but it's still a fun little bonus feature.
Filled with music and comedy, The Muppet Christmas Carol is a fun inclusion to your Christmas DVD collection. Available now through Walt Disney Home Entertainment.
