Selena Gomez and The Scene - A Year Without Rain Deluxe Edition

Selena Gomez returns with her band The Scene with her second album "A Year Without Rain".

The album is a complete change from her previous album and goes towards a more dance/pop/electropop sound. The lead single "Round and Round" is a fun opening which showcases Selena's change in sound. The second single and title track "A Year Without Rain" is a mid-tempo track that is a lot more mature than anything Selena has done. Added onto the tracklist for international markets is Selena's biggest hit to date "Naturally". I wasn't too impressed with this inclusion and didn't find it necessary. "Rock God" was co-written by Katy Perry and it is a fun take on the subject of rock and roll being seen as a religion. "Off The Chain" is a nice mid-temp track and "Summer's Not Hot" is a fun, driving with the top down sort of track. "Intuition" is a track that expresses having belief in yourself and "Spotlight", one of my favourites from the album, is a track that infuses reggae with electropop. "Ghost of You" is the ballad of the album and "Sick of You", although she seems to be singing about an ex-boyfriend, I couldn't help but think the song was directed at a former friend. "Live Like There's No Tomorrow", which was a featured track on the motion picture "Ramona and Beezus" starring Selena is an uplifting track and Selena showcases how much her voice has grown and developed. Also included are remixes to "Round and Round" and "A Year Without Rain" as well as the Spanish-language version of "A Year Without Rain".

The DVD is a great inclusion. The mini-documentary "Girl Meets World" is surprisingly lengthy and it is nice to see Selena talk so openly about different subjects, even becoming emotional when discussing her fans. The "Girl on Film - Behind The Scenes at The Photo Shoot" and "A Year Without Rain - Behind The Scenes" are interesting behind the scenes looks into the making of the album artwork and the making of the "A Year Without Rain" music video.
Although we see a behind the scenes look at the video, the video isn't actually included and I believed it would've been a nice inclusion. However, the videos for "Naturally" and "Round and Round" are included.
This album really showcases a new sound for Selena, a sound that she really settles herself into. Each track is different, yet still has that fun electropop sound to it and the DVD is a fun inclusion. Available now from Universal Music Australia and Hollywood Records.
