Mark Salling, otherwise known as Puck from Glee, is the first Glee cast mate to release a debut album.
The album is completely written by Mark Salling himself, minus the lead single “Higher Power”. He touches on a range of subjects, from relationships to the idea of being alone. The title track “Pipe Dreams” tells the story of Mark as he follows his dreams in Los Angeles.
The album has a very organic sound to it. It would fall under the rock/pop genre with influences from artists such as John Mayer and more independent artists. There’s also a few tracks with a hidden country sound to it. The track “Mary Poppins” sounds like it was influenced by The Beatles’ “Magical Mystery Tour” days and “Illusions” has a more jazzy sound to it. The track “Doppelganger” even sees Mark take on a bit of a rap with a more acoustic sound.
Some songs see Mark straining his voice, as he doesn’t have the biggest range, but he does what he can.
Standout tracks are “Migration”, which sounds like it would be a perfect inclusion on a romantic comedy film, the lead single “Higher Power” and “Scarlet Glasses”. Available now from Universal Music Australia.
