A member of the British girl group Girls Aloud, Cheryl Cole returns with her second album.
The album opens with lead single “Promise This”. The song has a very dance/pop sound to it and uses the French language to add a nice little hook that you can’t help but to sing along with. The track “Yeah Yeah” which features American rapper Travie McCoy is more of a club inspired track and showcases the different sounds Cole was looking into creating for the album.
The album is prominently dance/pop inspired but a couple of tracks differ. “The Flood”, the second single release, uses an acoustic guitar to create a pop ballad and the track “Let’s Get Down” which features The Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am has a more techno sound to it.
Also included as bonus tracks are Cole’s singles from “3 Words”, her debut album; “Fight For This Love”, “3 Words” featuring will.i.am and “Parachute”. Although the songs didn’t make a huge impact on the Australian singles charts, when you hear the songs you will know you have heard them before. “Fight For This Love” and “Parachute” are reflective of Cole’s usual pop sound whilst “3 Words” has more of a club/dance sound.
The album, on first listen, wasn’t outstanding, but with further listening I have found myself to enjoy it. I think as soon as you hear “Aloutte ouette ouette” you will be singing along, even if pop music isn’t really your preferred music choice. Available now from Polydor Records and Universal Music Australia.
