The soundtrack is recorded by the cast of the original musical performed in London. The cast includes Laura Michelle Kelly, Gavin Lee, David Haig, Linzi Hateley, Rosemary Ash, Jenny Galloway and Julia Sutton.
There are a total of twenty one songs. Some of these tracks are the original songs featured in the Walt Disney classic film "Mary Poppins" starring Julie Andrews and written by the famous Disney songwriters Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman. Some new songs have been created for the stage show and these tracks were written and composed by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.
If you are unfamiliar with the Mary Poppins story, the story follows two young children who's parents are at their wits end trying to find a suitable nanny. In flies Mary Poppins, a magical nanny, who teaches the children all she knows and even teaches the parents a thing or two.
The magic of the stage show easily adapts to this soundtrack, with each performer showcasing their vocal talent. All the favourite songs from the classic film are updated a little, or re-arranged, and are nicely presented. They don't stray too far away from their original form but they are given a new edge to them that suits the musical.
Standout tracks would be "A Spoonful of Sugar", "Jolly Holiday" and fan favourite "Supercalifragilisticexpeialidocious".
