Following the release of the Diamond Edition Blu-Ray and DVD of Walt Disney's Beauty and The Beast comes the release of the special edition soundtrack.
The album includes all the songs from the film (excluding "Human Again", which wasn't in the original film but added in the 2002 Special Edition DVD and soundtrack) and five scores from Alan Menken.
The album opens with the Prologue, in which David Odgen Stiers shares the Beast's story. As soon as you hear the score you know you're listening to Beauty and The Beast and the narrative voiceover is haunting and draws you in. The Prologue leads into "Belle", the big opening number. The song is sung by Belle (Paige O'Hara), Gaston (Richard White) and the townspeople. The song is a fun opening to the film and the song's bridge in which Belle sings "Oh, isn't this amazing..." is sung amazingly by Paige O'Hara. The "Belle (Reprise)" is sung solely by Belle and explains how she has no desire to marry Gaston and how she seeks adventure. "Gaston" is the villian of the film's signature song. Rather than the usual singing of the villians plans like in other previous Disney films (i.e. Poor Unfortunate Souls - The Little Mermaid) it's sung mostly by Gaston's sidekick LeFou and is about how no body is as great as Gaston. The "Gaston (Reprise)" has, after an interuption from Maurice, Gaston expressing his plan on how to win over Belle. The next track "Be Our Guest" is sung by Lumiere and Mrs. Potts to Belle. It's a fun "welcome-to-the-castle" song in which the enchanted objects of the castle sing how they're happy to serve Belle. "Something There" sung be Belle, Beast, Lumiere, Cogsworth and Mrs. Potts is about how Belle and Beast realise they're falling in love and "The Mob Song", sung by Gaston and the Townspeople is about the people of the town raiding the castle. "Beauty and The Beast", the movie's theme song, is a lovely song about the main characters sung by Mrs. Potts. The soundtrack also includes five scores composed by Alan Menken - "To The Fair", "West Wing", "The Beast Lets Belle Go", "Battle on The Tower" and "Transformation". Also included is the original rendition of the theme song "Beauty and The Beast" sung by Celine Dion and Peobo Bryson. Included as a bonus track is the newly recorded "Beauty and The Beast" performed by Jordin Sparks. The song is given a more r&b/ pop sound and I believe it's worthy of inclusion on the soundtrack.
With fun songs and amazing scores the "Beauty and The Beast" Special Edition Soundtrack is a must-have for any Disney fan. Available now through Walt Disney Records and Universal Music Australia.
