Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam has just premiered on Disney Channel Australia and coming soon to DVD is the Extended Edition of the film fit for a rockstar!
The film follows Mitchie (Demi Lovato) as she returns to the summer camp Camp Rock only to discover that a rival camp Camp Star has opened up across the river. When both camps collide they decide to have a "Final Jam" to see who in fact is the most "rockstar" camp, which will be broadcast on TV and the audience will decide the winner. As well as the competition Mitchie must also deal with trying to find some spare time to hang out with her now boyfriend and rockstar Shane Gray (Joe Jonas), Nate (Nick Jonas) falls for the daughter of the owner of Camp Star Dana (Chloe Bridges) and Jason (Kevin Jonas) has to deal with the Junior Rockers of Camp Rock.
The film is a fun and vibrant musical spectacular that simply outdoes the original film. There are bigger songs and bigger dance numbers. The film, rather than the original Camp Rock, is indeed a musical as the characters break out into song and dance whilst in the original film the cast reall only sung on stage. The standout favourite musical sequence from the film would have to be "It's On". It has a nice competitive attitude to it that I loved. Another aspect of the film that I loved was that the film doesn't end with a big dance number. Instead, it ends with a heartwarming song that all the campers sing along to. I thoroughly enjoyed the contrast between the two camps and the more hip hop inspired Camp Star was a nice addition to the film. The mega stars of the film the Jonas Brothers seem much more comfortable in the roles this time around and as they have had more acting experience from the original film, which was their film debut, they bring across a more experienced performance. Demi Lovato, who recieved her big break from the original Camp Rock, shows more confidence in her character and shows a much stronger side to the once shy Mitchie.
The Extended Edition DVD includes two new music sequences; "Different Summers" performed by Demi Lovato and "Walkin' In My Shoes" performed by Matthew "M Dot" Finley and Meaghan Martin. The music sequence to "Different Summers" isn't anything special, just Mitchie with a guitar and her fellow campers singing background vocals but it's nice to see Demi Lovato do what she usually does on stage. The second exclusive music sequence is a bigger number and I much prefered the song "Walking In My Shoes" to the track "Tear It Down" that Camp Star performed at Camp Wars.
A fun inclusion is the "Rock Along Mode" which allows you to sing along to your favourite songs from the film.
Also included is three international music videos from "Campers Around The World". I would have liked to have seen the music video for "It's On" to have been included as it was specifically produced for promotion of the film and was not just the clip from the film.
The film is an outstanding and worthy sequel to the original and if you love musicals you will love "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam". Available October 20th from Walt Disney Home Entertainment.
